You need to know how a catastrophy happened in order to prevent one from happening again.

I believe that the government is rushing to make changes to the Arms Act without proper consultation with people from the shooting fraternity. We live in a democratic society in New Zealand and governments proposed changes to the Arms Act does not constitute democracy.

Those intent on mass shooting dont care about laws, and will find the gun they wish to use. Meanwhile all others are penalised

another knee jerk reaction getting in laws they already had planned just waiting for this moment to ride in on the coat tails of emotion. No gun ever murdered anyone. Only the trigger puller. Banning guns will only drive guns underground to the bad guys while while the good guys lose their freedoms

Please do an inquiry into this. Banning Semi Automatic rifles is not going to fix a problem.

So after nearly thirty years of gun ownership l am now labelled a terror threat and criminal overnight? Because of the actions of one individual (who isn't even a kiwi !) I now have to hand over my legally purchased and owned 'weapons of mass destruction' ?! I believe that the gaping holes in the gun laws (being able to sell e-cat magazines etc to non licence holders as just one nonsensical example) to be the problem. Not to mention the police force are to busy revenue collecting than to investigate a reported threat that could have stopped this nut job before this shocking act even began. Also the so called "intelligence community" should be taken to task as to why they did not identify this threat which by all accounts was plastered all over social media. Do I need mention the rumours regarding the vetting process used with this psycho....? He would have found a way to carry out his plans anyway if firearms were not available... I seem to recall an overseas terror attack that killed eighty odd innocents with a truck ! If you really believe criminalisation of firearms will be the answer why don't you do the same to drugs and make those illegal to get them off the streets ? Oh hang on...they are... how's that working out? Also punishment for gun related crimes need to be seriously looked into as most of the sentences handed out are laughable and a complete joke. I thought we lived in a democratic society where the government were civil servants , apparently I am mistaken and we are living in a Draconian police state where common sense laws are shunned and we are forced to hand over power to political parties who only agenda is to gain publicity and sow seeds of hate and fear of law abiding firearms owners .

It’s time to put emotions on the side and start using logic and common sense.

I was born in New Zealand 50 years ago, a country with non-dictatorship without discrimination values. Now the government proposed draft is designed to treat me as a villain - which I AM NOT.

How can you tar everyone with the same brush as that waste of oxygen, you will do more harm than good if you follow through with this quickly submitted law that has had no public input whatsoever. How about letting fal holders take control of the firearms act and oversee the enforcement and attainment of fal's in NZ as clearly the NZ Police have done an atrocious job of it so far! Shame on you Jacinda, so much for democracy

This is an undemocratic and frankly quite scary act by our own government.

This is not Democracy but travesty of justice. The Gunman is an Australian and Law abiding NZ firearms owners are been punished by a knee jerk reaction by Jacinda Arden and the Government by enforcing a law to ban MSSA firerams without going through the correct Democratic process. We elect a Government to work for us and the Country not against us, when this happens then it is Dictatorship and Tyranny. Law abiding firearms owners must make a stand against this if not the avalanche will continue.

Changing a law without proper consultation is not democracy. It wasn't a New Zealander who did this.
