Dear Argosy Professors,
We, the undersigned Argosy students, respectfully request the option to change practicum seminars for Spring semester. Having to register for the same practicum seminar from one term to the next hurts us by severely limiting our scheduling possibilities.
The limited scheduling options can create real hardship. A student with a several-hour commute, for example, must make an "extra" trip each week to attend a single one-hour class that he could otherwise have scheduled with other classes. Or, a few nights a week, a student with small children gets home after the children are asleep when he could have scheduled those classes during the day. Some students have nighttime or early morning demands, such as wakeful children or early-starting practica; unchangeable seminars force them to take night classes and function suboptimally. In some cases students have other fixed obligations that make scheduling around the required practicum seminar time difficult or even impossible. Sometimes students have to delay taking needed courses by a year, or take them online over the summer.
We value the cohesion of the seminar group and the formulation-approach taught by each professor. But we feel that we are better served by having freedom of choice and the ability to set the healthiest possible schedules.
We would greatly appreciate your openness to our request, and we ask that at this Thursday's meeting you vote to allow students the option to register for any practicum seminar in the spring, effective immediately.
Sincerely yours,
I HAVE BEEN TALKING TO SO MANY OF YOU ABOUT THE EXHAUSTING CONFLICTS CREATED BY THESE RIGID SCHEDULES!! IT IS CLEAR THAT WE ARE ALL DESPERATE FOR THE FREEDOM TO BALANCE OUR LIVES AND OUR STUDIES EFFECTIVELY!! I AM CURRENTLY WORKING ON A PROPOSAL TO PRESENT TO THE FACULTY SO STAY TUNED FOR MORE NEWS SOON!!
November 5, 2008
THIS MOMENTUM IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!! SEEING SO MANY OF YOU STANDING UP FOR OUR RIGHT TO CHOOSE OUR OWN SCHEDULES PROVES WE ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK!! THE PROFESSORS DEFINITELY HAVE TO LISTEN TO US NOW!!!

Totally agree. Having zero flexibility makes it impossible to manage a job and school at the same time. Really frustrating.

My commute is literally 2 hours each way. Having to come in just for one hour in the evening kills my schedule. Please fix this.
