Oconee County, SC (School District of Oconee County) - Background: The current SRO model allows several elementary schools to share 1 officer throughout the school year and provides NO officer at the Alternative School. If you are a parent of a school aged child in the SDOC system OR a resident of Oconee County SC, please sign the petition to show your support for and to encourage our County Council to add additional funding to the Sheriff's Department budget to place an SRO or SSO in all elementary schools. The Oconee County Sheriff's Office does a tremendous job with the resources they currently have, but need the councils support to institute a plan to fund more positions.

The Oconee County Council can no longer ignore this momentum while our children remain unprotected in elementary schools. We have reached a critical point and it is time for them to stop making excuses and start funding these positions immediately.

Even if it means reallocating funds from other areas - our children’s safety should always be our FIRST priority.
Our officers do an incredible job but their manpower should not be limited to middle and high schools. They should not be spread so thin between elementary schools and I find it completely unacceptable that the alternative school has no officer at all! There is a tremendous opportunity there to place the right person in that school who can not only reinforce security but also be a mentor to a population of kids who may need it most.
An officer should be not only at our middle and high schools, but there to protect our elementary students and staff.
I have so much peace of mind when I see the SRO when I drop my kids off in the morning! Wish he could be there everyday to protect our children!
I have grandchildren that need the same protection as any other student. Please put protection in all the schools in Oconee County School District.
We need our keep our children safe at all times.

I feel the elementary schools should each have their own resource officer. Sharing a resource officer between elementary schools is unacceptable.
