We the undersigned are urging the Council to reconsider its decision to place a school crossing patrol outside Bournville School Primary and Secondary provision.

We feel our children, especially those in the Primary Provision, are put at risk every morning and afternoon because of having to cross the road (Hay Green Lane) to enter the school grounds.

The road is narrow and there is a blind corner which does not facilitate visibility in order to assess whether it is safe to cross or not.

Drivers park and drop off their children wherever they deem suitable for themselves with no regard to the safety of our young children.

For those of us that walk our children to school we are getting tired and are sick of the worry we endure having to make sure our children get across the road safely!

Updates

July 13, 2018

I spent this morning watching the chaos on Hay Green Lane and it is clear that my child and yours are not safe in these conditions. I am currently compiling all of your shared experiences of near misses to present directly to the council members who seem to ignore the daily risk at our school gates.

July 13, 2018

Seeing this level of support confirms I am not the only one holding my breath every single morning at that blind corner. The momentum behind our demand for a crossing patrol is proof that the safety of our children on Hay Green Lane is finally being recognized as the urgent priority it is.

This is a daft place to have the main entrance for the school in the first place - how did they get permission to put it there? Traffic has got worse on the road since entrance was changed, and some parents drive way too quickly.

This should of been done yrs ago my daughter is in yr 9 and after school activities were always told to leave from that entrance which we made clear was unacceptable in winter when dark.

My daughter attends the primary provision and we walk to school, 4 out of 5 days we have to step into the road from no choice of our own because of parent drivers parking om the pavements with no disregard to others, let alone children... I have already spolen to the police about this and they were no help at all... please sign the petition. For the childrens safety at least.

The road is dangerous due to so much traffic. It should be one way with a person to cross over the children . And can’t understand why the school will not let parents drop in the grounds they are putting the children in danger. Parent use the parking for about 15 minuets. And there is room .

For a all through school (reception to year 11) the narrow roads don't help no parking facilities for driving parents/carers so they park anywhere making it extremely unsafe for all children that attend this school. Also for walking parents/children it's extremely dangerous to cross with the blind corner and the parked cars taking up pathments so have to walk in road. A crossing shall make it much safer for residents/parents/carers and most importantly the children. Mum of a child in year 1
