London University have applied to Camden Council for planning permission to build a very high block and tall townhouses as student accommodation plus conference hall between Cartwright Gardens and Sandwich St, Bloomsbury. This will reduce natural light and all direct sunlight from the Sandwich House flats, where I live. We get afternoon sunlight only at present. We will have none at all if this development proceeds. The new buildings will make our homes dark, depressing and gloomy, and sunsets will be a thing of the past. At present I can see a square of sky from my flat. This little view of the sky and the treetops of Cartwright Gardens will be blocked out by the proposed high buildings. This may seem a trivial matter, but to be able to see a sunset, clouds, or a corner of the night sky, are simple, heartwarming pleasures, which should be freely available to all. Some of us in this block are not young, and the view from one’s window is that much more important if you can’t get out easily. But the most serious consequence for local residents is the loss of natural light. We ask Camden Council to refuse planning permission for this development in its present form. We don't want to live in the dark! Please sign this petition and pass it on to your friends.
