The Town of Glocester wants to allow Cumberland Farms to build on the “Purple Cat “ property on Money Hill Road.

This move by the town, will have catastrophic effects on SEVERAL Local Small Businesses…

Is that the economic growth plan of Historic Chepachet, to bring in Franchises to displace the small businesses?

(Did we not spend 2 years putting in historic brick sidewalks and lighting to now bring in a Cumberland Farms?)

What’s next Stop and Shop, Home Depot, McDonalds… closing more small businesses.

Do we want Chepachet to be the next Smithfield????

Is this the same Cumberland Farms that abandoned Chepachet several years ago? Who’s to say it will not happen again?

HAS THE TOWN:

Asked YOUR opinion????

Explained any variances to the Town Laws that will need to be granted? … weren’t these laws created for a reason?

Considered the effects of the Gas Fumes on the children at the NewHolistic Youth Center not more than 50 feet away?

Considered that they are adding a source of possible contamination (which the town is still recovering from with the old Texaco).. with two restaurants within close proximity and a new “proposed” Winery in their backyard?

Evaluated the impact of in/out traffic on a road that is already severely backed up nightly.. and could worsen with the new proposed Roundabout?

This town has been built and maintained by the small businesses..

Other communities in RI and Mass have said NO to Cumberland Farms.. we should too!

Reaching this level of support has been a heavy experience that feels both exhausting and validating. I am too drained to celebrate properly but I am grateful that so many people see why we must keep fighting for our town. We are staying the course even when it feels like the current is pulling against us.

There are too many concerns the various boards have to set waivers for this to be in the town.

Please, no CF, it will put me out of business before I ever get off the ground. Also, CF does not fit in historic theme.

As soon as Eli remodels the Sunoco, C F moves down the street. I support local Businesses.

Yes there are several small businesses "Fighting for Survival" with this Petition. Cumberland Farms is a Convenience Store/Gas Station/ Fast Food/Coffe Shop all in one.. There are at least 8 businesses in town that will be effected.. including some of theFranchise Businesses.. Cumberland Farms is not "Healthy" competition.. it is a slaughter.. You cannot compete with a business that has all of there own brand of Groceries, Dairy, Bakery and Gas.. In regard to Taxes... Did you see a decrease in your Taxes when CVS or Dunkin Donuts opened? I know I didn't... If you want a ONE Store Town then Vote Yes, Yes. Yes.. If you want to Keep Chepachet one of the few thrivingTraditional Historic Small Towns .. then SAY NO!

There is something we can do! The Town Zoning Board has to grant a Special Use Permit and approve Variances for them to build.. Please call the Zoning Board and tell them NO!

Unfortunately, even though we don't want Cumberland Farms here, there isn't anything we can do. We allowed CVS and Dunkin Donuts... we cannot discriminate against Cumberland Farms. It's going to happen and just like CVS did it'll take down our small town businesses. I feel awful for people like Eli who just expanded his store. This is a decision that should've been thought about before we allowed other businesses to expand into our town. Now it's out of hand and we want to do something about it but it's a run away train and we can't. My opinion, not here to argue about it, just stating my thoughts. They may not be "right" in some people's eyes but I am not here to be "right" just here to support something.
