Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School district has always been a district with individual schools that have their own unique traditions and characteristics. Our schools are ingrained into Baytown's history and tradition as we have proud supporters of each school and a sense of belonging to each. It runs deep through families such as those who have their 3rd generation going to the same school the previous generations went to.

In addition, in each school, the entire school gets to go to class with each other and experience it with all grade levels. Underclassmen learn and build friendships with the upperclassmen throughout their years together and vice versa. We become a close knit family as we learn and grow with our older peers creating friendships that last a lifetime.

GCCISD wants to combine all of the high schools in the district and make one "Mega School" where we have Robert E. Lee and Goose Creek Memorial as ninth and tenth grade campuses, and Ross S. Sterling as the eleventh and twelfth grade campus. This separates our classes and makes for very large graduating classes. In addition, all extra curricular would be grand in size and would take place at various campuses depending on the activity.

We need to stop this idea from coming into fruition because it would severely alter everything that we hold dear and are used to today. As we prepare for our future lives in school, we also have to strive preserve our past history. Help be a part of preserving each school's unique traditions by saying no to a monotonous mega school.

I honestly did not think this many people cared about our school traditions as much as I do but here we are and the energy is just wild. It is honestly heartening to see so many of you jump on board because honestly I was pretty worried that maybe I was just overreacting to the news.

Splitting the grades up like that will destroy the spirit of the teams. Think about the band and sports programs.

Bad idea. Keep our campuses how they are. Leave Lee and Sterling alone.

This is not a smart idea. This would mean classes would be bigger. Less room for individual attention some students may need.

I believe that this would ruin the engrained culture of the GCCISD schools and also sabotage programs such as band, dance team, choir, orchestra and athletics (i.e. what if a 9th graders' skill level is on par with a senior but is stuck on the 9th grade campus)
