Notice: This is a petition to express the concern of students and anyone else. We are not saying these changes are terrible but would like to express our concern in hopes of leading to a neutral conclusion. Please do not take offence as this is the information that has been provided. Thank you and please leave feedback or your concerns below. We encourage you to share your voice!

The Catholic School Board wants to change our format of the education system. St. Joseph is the best highschool in Grande Prairie as well as the only Catholic Highschool in Grande Prairie but they want to make us "the best school in Alberta because it isn't good enough." They think that by taking away ALL Pre-AP courses that the Pre-AP kids will be helping the non Pre-AP kids improve while they will be distracted by un-focused kids who don't want to be there. They are now making classrooms where we are handed our work to take home and do on our own time. We go to normal classes but we would teach ourselves. Even though we have all objected, they think that we don't know what's best for us, they want to benefit the small minority of students who don't like classrooms. But what about the rest of us? Well we suffer. This is our education, not theirs. Our future is at stake but they only care about themselves and looking good. They care about what's best for the school board, not what's best for our education. They want to increase our statistics of being the "best in Alberta", they don't care about us, they care about "fixing perfection". They won't hear our opinions, they say that this is final but we, as educated students want to change this. Who is being affected? Us, not them. We are the future generation and if we don't get the education we deserve then what will happen?

They want to reformat the class as well, they want 25 students who will go from class to class with each other, with the same teacher for every year till graduation. None of us see any benefits, and honestly the education system is perfect.

We care for our education and are concerned, we as students hope that this petition will help express our concerns as we cannot do it alone.

This is our school and we hope that our education will always be in.the Catholic School Board's best interest.

I really thought this might just fizzle out in a hallway conversation but the amount of people who actually get why this redesign is such a bad move is honestly overwhelming. It feels like the school board might actually have to acknowledge us now because so many of you stepped up to say this is definitely not what we need for our future.

I'm reminded of the old adage "If it's not broken, don't fix it". Let the students and teachers have a voice and say in what is to change or improve their school. Drastic changes such as taking away Pre-AP is something I think is more detrimental than you may think.

I'm not willing risk my education just so the school can run an experiment on us.

The discussion for re-design should have happend long before it was in the stage it is in now so that the parents and students concerns could have been addressed & fixed before it was implemented in the 2015-16 year! My daughter was planning on fast tracking and now we feel that with the re-design the only way she will be able to do this is "on her own" which is not fair to any of the kids who wanted to do this. I also am very concerned about the Pre-AP kids and Non Pre-AP kids being bundled together, whose curriculum will be followed the Pre-AP, non Pre-AP or a mix of both? And the fact the Pre-AP kids have to take "seminars" to have these courses is not right, they should have the option of being in a Pre-AP class!

I don't go to St,joes but Im planning to next year, I would also like the resident to stop. I feel like by having the AP and Pre-AP courses you have a better chance of finding people who are more like you. I've he no this change will create a big chaos and I do not agree with it.

Honestly it makes me mad that they passed this without hearing our opinions first. We are the students being educated, we are the ones being affected, and we should have a say in something like this. We are the ones going through this not them. I'll transfer to a different school if they go through with this.

Completely agree, this is affecting me as a PreAp student and if it goes through I will be switching to the public system.

I don't understand why they would implement an idea without testing it first? They can't just throw people into doing this, no they can experiment with a few students as volunteers and from there they can look at the success rates. Why not make these 'pods' an option? Like come on people get your shit together and think about a plan first.. thanks
