Say “NO” to increased traffic congestion on Miller Avenue and dangerous cut-through traffic in our neighborhoods!
On August 7th the Mill Valley City Council intends to reduce traffic capacity on half the length of Miller Avenue, to just one lane in each direction!
Miller Avenue is Mill Valley’s major thoroughfare. Reducing traffic capacity on Miller Avenue (from Willow St. to Millwood St.) would dramatically increase traffic on Blithedale Avenue and dangerous cut-through traffic in the “Triangle” neighborhoods.
Tell the City Council to honor the community-approved Miller Avenue Streetscape Plan and maintain 2 lanes in each direction on Miller Avenue!
The City Council’s proposal to reduce traffic capacity to one lane would:
- Betray the public’s trust by disregarding 5 years of planning and community participation by hundreds of residents that resulted in the approved Miller Avenue Streetscape Plan;
- Violate the principles of our General Plan, which calls for enhanced traffic flow and multi-modal transportation options;
- Decrease safety for bicycles on Miller Avenue (dooring hazards) and on our narrow neighborhood streets (speeding cut-through traffic).
Say “NO” to reducing traffic capacity to one lane!

I have spent the last three days mapping out the specific traffic flow projections that contradict the council's current proposal. These documents are being synthesized into a formal brief to be submitted to the planning commission before the next session. Expect a detailed summary of their administrative response to our initial inquiry shortly.

Whenever traffic goes from 2 lanes to one you have a bottle neck. The development of the lumberyard will slow traffic as autos enter and exit the the businesses. Why is the counsel creating a problem for the community? I definitely want the two lanes to be reinstated as was planned.
I am a biker and a driver. We have ample bike lanes to safely ride our bikes in and out of town. We have increasing and unsustainable traffic that is ruining the live-ability of this amazing town. Let's stop ingoring the number one challenge to our town, real estate value and daily living.
As a resident in a cut-through area, we already have a significant problem with cars speeding by at high traffic times which will only get worse with reduced lanes of traffic. It's dangerous for our children, pets, cyclists - everyone.
Please keep the two lanes. At present the traffic does not seem Bad to you, but that is because a huge number of us avoid going in Miller during construction. Please honor the master plan and keep what was proposed originally.
The idea of having a major artery leaving Mill Valley reduced to one lane, is LUDICROUS, to put it mildly; commuting to the city, to the High School, ease of access to business on Miller are just a few of the critical reasons why. Thank you.
Mill Valley, with its Sunday Parking meters and now this additional traffic congestion in favor of some mythological bike transit is now off my shopping list. Businesses all over Mill Valley are dying because of the shortsightedness and idiocy promoted by the council.
Please keep 2 lanes. Your priority should be to solve the problem of ever worsening traffic congestion!

To reverse your decision to approve the community-approved Miller Avenue streetscape plan--a decision that was made per a legitimate, administrative process--undermines not only the prescribed governmental processes but also your credibility.
