BARROW COUNTY CONCERNED CITIZENS AGAINST HIGH DENSITY HOUSING ON WALL RD, STATHAM!!!

We are signing this petition as concerned citizens to show opposition to the proposed development of a high density subdivision (R3) located off of Wall Rd and Elder Rd in rural Barrow County and to oppose the request to amend Barrow County's Future Land Use Map to accommodate the rezone from Rural Reserve to Suburban Neighborhood.
This proposed development will add 318 houses to roughly 66% of approximately 95 acres (over 3 dwellings per acre). This land is currently zoned Agricultural (AG) which is characterized by large acreage residential lots and farms of at least 5 acres. The adjacent and near by properties are zoned Agricultural Residential (AR) and Low Density Single-Family Residential (R1). The approval of the amendment to the Future Land Use Map and rezone will rapidly and adversely change the area.
We strongly oppose and believe this unfavorable change to the Future Land Use Map along with the R3 rezone will have severe negative impacts to our surrounding communities. We oppose high density housing in our area and want to preserve the rural characteristics of our community. We want to prevent the negative consequences an impact like this will have such as:
- lowering our property values by setting a precedent for high density housing in the area
- increasing traffic on our rural roads that are currently in poor condition
- overwhelm our already crowded school system
- "The cost of such a densely populated development would be very detrimental" per Dr. McMichael, Superintendent, Barrow County Schools
- increasing crime in area

The feedback from our neighbors confirms that our rural roads are not equipped to handle the traffic this subdivision will bring. I am currently drafting formal testimony for the planning commission. Email your county commissioner today to demand they keep the zoning at Agricultural.

I live on wall rd and really think building a lot of homes would be bad. I left Gwinnett county because it was busy. And really like my country living.
We need single family homes that have buyers, not renters. We need the extra tax money rather than drains in our infrastructure, schools, and increased traffic congestion. I did not buy here to have my property devalues.
Please do not approve this type zoning for the following reasons The narrow roads will be dangerous and congested The school system cannot accommodate the student explosion 3 houses per acre requiring septic systems
Let's not make Barrow County into another Gwinnett. Also, most of the roads will be difficult to expand. The Developers should also be required to pay for changes to the infrastructure like; roads, schools and fresh water. Don't give them tax breaks, make them pay to build here.
We live on Hardigree Road and now the cars come down our street Like it was a race track and they just had to pass the others. Very dangerous now can’t imagine the traffic and the speed this would bring. Please don’t do this to us.
Why have a Land Use Plan if this project is approved??!!
I am opposed to changing it to R3 rezone it must stay like other places in the area! to preserve the small rural area!

Stop trying to turn Barrow County into Gwinnett. You are ruining the small town community feel that I was raised in. Barrow county can not support this type of development, the schools can not handle a higher influx of students, the roads are not well kept as is and you want to bring more traffic?
