The independent panel ruled in our favor and The Duchess is officially cleared to open. Barfly threw everything they had at us to kill live music in York but they failed because you refused to back down. We proved that corporate bullying holds no power against a community that knows …

OUR EVENTS IN JULY HAVE BEEN RESTRICTED Firstly, there have been no objections whatsoever to The Duchess from the police, the fire authorities, York City Council, local traders or neighbours. None. Everybody seems to want this to happen, and we have conformed to every regulation and request. However, Barfly don't want the people of York to have The Duchess. God knows, we're trying to give it you but, after pages and pages of irrelevant objections and legal argument from the multi-million pound company that owns Fibbers, we have had to submit to an enquiry. This will be held on or before July 28. York City Council have been unbelievably supportive but recommend that we bring matters to a head, and so the issue of opening this live music venue is being put before an independent panel. We fully expect to win. However, in case of this happening and to preserve some of the July shows, we had the foresight to apply for a number of Temporary Event Notices to cover the following events: FRIDAY JULY 4 AND SATURDAY JULY 5 FRIDAY JULY 11 WEDNESDAY JULY 15 SATURDAY JULY 19 MONDAY JULY 21 WEDNESDAY JULY 24 If you really agree with opening the live music venue that everybody in York has wanted for so long; and if you genuinely believe that we pose no threat to public safety, local traders and neighbours or even our own customers, please drop us a line, start your own petition, anything! Your messages of support will be presented to the enquiry. Thank you for the already overwhelming amount of goodwill messages (before we have even opened!) and we promise that we will fight as hard as we can to bring this to you as soon as possible!!

Barfly is doing everything in their power to crush this venue with their endless legal stalling and petty objections. We are currently preparing our case for the upcoming inquiry to expose their greed for exactly what it is. Keep the pressure on them because we refuse to let a corporate giant dictate the culture of York.

Absolute joke. The council is fine with everything but these guys just want to cause trouble for profit. Sort it out.

Ridiculous that a big company can just shut down a local venue like this. York live music scene is already struggling enough as it is.

KEEP THE DUCHESS OPEN! Fibbers is just scared of a little competition.

Have always loved the shows here. It would be a huge loss for the city if they actually forced it to close.

York needs this place. Sick of all the red tape just let the music play.
