Save Pine City School
Hello, My name is Michael J. Rodabaugh
As some of you may already know, the Elmira City School District has received proposals from Hunt Engineering in regards to District Re-organizing and cost-saving. Of the 5 to 6 proposals, at least one of them would shut down Pine City School. Pine City School is one of the BEST Elementary schools in the region, and its' only competitor in Elmira City School District is Hendy. Also, given the recent renovations of the school, it should not be closed. We must all stand up and voice our opinions towards the Elmira City School District! Anyone who has graduated from Pine City School, lives in the School District's area, or lives in Pine City should sign this petition right away. We must stand up and tell them NO! They cannot reasonably close down the best school while letting their under-performing schools stay open. We have a few under-performing Elementary Schools in the district that are known to cause problems and ultimately sacrifice the learning process for those students.
Also, anyone who knows any former graduates from Pine City School who have become very successful or have made a difference should Contact Marsha Brown at 607-733-7925. You may e-mail her at mBrown@stny.rr.com. Also, Marsha would like some help with examining this book which lists every graduate from Southside High School between 1929 - 2001. Please if you can help her find successful persons who went to Pine City in this book, or think you can help in any other way, contact her.
We need to get the word out to the community and fast. If anyone is willing to go throughout Pine City and Southport, door to door, make phone calls, or anything like this to inform the public, PLEASE PLEASE DO! We also must contact everyone on the Board of Education and the Superintendent. Tell them not to close the school!
Please, if you already signed the paper petition at Shepherd's Food Market, do NOT sign this petition. Duplicate signatures are not acceptable and are an admission of fraud. If you believe you may have mistakenly signed both, please contact Michael at the cell-phone or e-mail below.
Let us all pay very close attention that there is only a proposal to shut down Pine City School and Ernie Davis Middle School among other things. These proposals have yet to be considered and the Board of Education has asked that a Cost Analysis be completed to state what the costs would be to move forward with any of the proposals and the possible savings. I would like to also point out that it appears that these proposals came about with the advisement and encouragement from the Superintendent's office. Based upon Wednesday's Board meeting, the School Board did not seem to be convinced. Our support of Pine City School helped though.
We still need to get the community organized and educated on this manner. Pass the word on!
Pass this on QUICKLY!
Sincerely,
Michael J. Rodabaugh
