The demolition order is officially cancelled and our chalets are finally safe from the bulldozers. I spent my childhood summers here and knowing these unique homes will stand for another generation brings me to tears. We must stay alert to ensure the developers respect this outcome but for tonight we …
SWALECLIFFE CHALETS CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION, KENT
These chalets, sited on the coast between Whitstable and Herne Bay, are in imminent danger of being demolished to make way for a new, regimented caravan park. Indeed, 3 have been destroyed in the last few days! These brightly coloured, individually designed and unique chalets, some of which have been here since before the war, are an integral feature of the North Kent coastline and part of our English heritage and they should remain!
Please add your name to our petition to help save them!
Watching the wrecking crews tear down these homes feels like losing pieces of my own history. I have been spending my mornings documenting every remaining chalet because we cannot afford to lose another one of these landmarks to a soulless caravan park.

Seeing this level of support confirms that these chalets are more than just wood and paint to people. Knowing you care about this history as deeply as I do gives me the strength to keep fighting the developers.

Ridiculous. Nobody wants another generic caravan park. The charm of the coast is the chalets.

My grandad built one of these back in the 50s. You cant just bulldoze history for a boring caravan park. Leave them alone!

Absolute shame. Went past yesterday and was shocked to see them gone. They add so much color to the beach.
