We, the citizens, are petitioning the United States Congress to allow any and all desiccated thyroid extract manufacturers to continue or resume production of desiccated thyroid extract medications. The FDA should continue to work out issues with manufactures regarding NDA (New Drug Applications), DESI (Drug Efficacy Study Implementation), and grandfathered (before FDA existence) issues relating to the manufacturing of natural thyroid medication that has been made and used effectively for over a century. Policymakers must recognize that millions of American citizens have been successfully using natural desiccated thyroid medication since the 1890s. There are approximately 13 million people in the United States of America alone that have thyroid disease. A few million of these people depend on natural thyroid replacement hormone medication because other medications have not worked for them. Congress please direct the FDA to easily resolve this issue to prevent further devastating and negative harm to millions of citizens who use and need natural thyroid hormone medications. The FDA should reach its goals without further adversely affecting public health, imposing undue burdens on consumers, and disrupting the market. This is achievable as the FDA has repeatedly done this very same thing for other drug manufactures. The disruption and shortage in the supply of natural thyroid medicines has already threatened many people's health, and immediate intervention is needed to prevent further development of misery, other disease or even death. Many patients are life-dependent upon natural thyroid medication. Thousands of patients are already without medication. This petition will be mailed (snail mailed and e-mailed) to members of the United States House and Senate on September 15, 2009. Please sign this petition if you believe natural thyroid manufactures should be allowed to continue making natural desiccated thyroid drugs and if you, also, believe millions of citizens should be allowed to continue taking their natural thyroid medications that been tried, proven and used efficiently for 118 years.
