Started by A village school Monks Eleigh 12 years, 6 months ago
Monks Eleigh is a beautiful village in South Suffolk and our local primary school is the heart of our village. We call upon Suffolk County Council to support our village school not close it.

Updates

I was just out walking past the school and realized how quiet the playground feels lately despite all the noise we are making together. I have been fielding emails from folks who remember their own childhoods in those classrooms and it really hits home that this is about more than just a building. Trying to coordinate with the council is like talking to a brick wall but at least we are making some noise.

I really never thought this would gain this much steam but here we are and it makes me feel so much better about the future of our school. It is just wild to see how many people actually care about keeping this place alive and I am trying to keep up with all the messages right now.

The loss to the village will be severe. The manner by which the closure has been engineered can only politely be described as deeply disappointing. Already people are declining to buy property in the village and we will end up as a retirement annex. SCC and Ofsted need to raise their own bars

As a (retired) newcomer to the village I still feel that the school is essential to the overall "health" of the village and Suffolk CC should be doing more to help rather than take the easy option and close it. From what I have read recently of OFSTED it's procedures leave a lot to be desired; its reviews seems to be a box ticking exercise with little attempt to consider the bigger picture.

It is very sad that the school has been let down leading to the tragic situation it is now in. I hope and pray a really positive solution will be sought and found. The school deserves that as it has served children in the village and surrounding area well in the past, including my two children in the 1970s.

As working parents the school closing may force us to move from the village! Children, families and the whole village will suffer if the school closes. Save our school!

The school deserves more support to overcome the ofstead report and things can change. It is a small scool but serves the needs of local people and the chlldren in the area. The County needs to think outside the box and look at the impact of the community if this school was to close.

As we see the move to cut costs and centralise everything we are losing what is so wonderful in our rural spaces. Village schools offer a rich education experience to children as well as being the heart of hte village. Suffolk County Council must support this school - not close it.

It will be the death of Monks Eleigh if the school closes.

We need a school in the village for social cohesion.
