The Board of Commissioners finally backed down and protected La Bajada Mesa from these greedy developers. We forced them to respect our land and leave this canyon alone. Stay alert because we need to make sure they never try this reckless destruction again.

A petitiion to the Santa Fe County Board of Commissioners: I am in strong opposition to any proposed strip-mining of the scenic and historically significant landmark, La Bajada Mesa, and I support its protection.

Updates

July 19, 2013

The Santa Fe County Commissioners cannot ignore this momentum anymore. We are building the kind of pressure that forces these suits to finally acknowledge they will not destroy La Bajada Mesa for a quick profit.

NM cannot afford to jeopardize her historic landmarks, most particularly those of our natural environment. Stop the mining!

I am in strong opposition to any proposed strip-mining of the scenic and historically significant landmark, La Bajada Mesa, and I support its protection. We might as well strip mine our rich history and reduce it to ruble too! Not to mention it will have on all the lives it will impact negatively.

There should be no mining of these materials in this very sensitive area. Let's pay a little extra money to have the materials brought in.

The La Bajada Mesa is the beautiful entry to the historic and recreational treasure of Santa Fe! It would be a horrible and irreversible error to harm this landscape for the short term gains of a corporation--or even the "highway/road construction budget" of the County/State. This area MUST be preserved.

They should increase mining at places that are already dug up. Do not tear up the earth in new places. Leave it alone.

Please do not mine on La Bjada Mesa. Leave it in its natural state. It is one of the beautiful wonders of New Mexico that we all appreciate as we drive north from Albuquerque to santa Fe. This would be a horrible visage for tourists coming to New Mexico as well. Let's not destroy the assests that we have i.e. the beauty that attracts tourists to New Mexico. Tourism is a clean, non environmentally destructive industry. Mining is destructive to our fragile, drought threatened environment.
