WE, THE UNDERSIGNED RESIDENTS OF THE TOWN OF SAND LAKE, PETITION THE SAND LAKE TOWN BOARD TO APPROVE THE PROPOSED NEW ZONING MAP AND ORDINANCE RELATED TO PROHIBITING THE UNRESTRICTED EXPANSION OF MINING AND THE ATTENDANT PROVISIONS RELATED TO SPECIAL USE IN OTHER ZONES
The momentum behind this petition is finally catching the attention of the board. It has been an exhausting pull to get this far but seeing so many of you join this fight makes the struggle feel worth the effort.

this is an important issue mining in this town is instrumental in lowering our property values if u lived near bonded u would know what I mean another issue is the dangerous amount of unsafe trucks in an out of bonded on 43 and 150 over there years there have been many people killed on both those roads from trucks loaded with asphalt or sand and gravel

Sadly, grandfathered mines will not go away, but every effort should be made to require new mines to apply for a special use permit, particularly in areas designated residential. There should be the opportunity to curtail new mining in residential developments. Attended a public hearing - there was nothing overly onerous or much of a change in the new code. It is time to update & standardize the zoning ordinance.

We currently have put our plans on hold to build a house in Sand Lake because of the mining situation. If it goes through WE WILL NOT become residence of Sand Lake!

The current mines already slowly drain lakes and wells, create truck and exhaust pollution, slow rush hour traffic, and create run off ground pollution. There has been no reclaimation of older mining sites. I do not support mining expansion.

The truck traffic, dust and noise have to stop. I moved to Springer Rd to raise my children in a safe, quiet and peaceful neighborhood. I wanted them to be able to ride their bikes to neighbors without worrying about gravel trucks hitting them. I wake up in the morning to hear the rumbling of the crusher across the road now and the trucks up and down the road every ten minutes. We feel like we are being forced out to mining. The dust in the town is ridiculous! The environment is being ruined and the beauty I saw when I moved here 20 years ago is greatly diminished. My quality of life is ruined from dust, dirt, noise and smell of diesel fuel every day!

My husband and I bought our house 5 years ago with the anticipation of raising our 3 children in a country setting residential community. Had I known that there could potentially be a mine right down our road with heavier truck traffic, we would have moved elsewhere. Not only am I concerned with the truck traffic, the speed of the heavy trucks as it is already, but the dust pollution, the noise. The noise we hear already from town garage is enough and that has to be here, I could not imagine adding more to that. I pray that the town take into consideration the investment of the homeowners, our children and our health.

Sand Lake needs to approve this petition. We're all for commerce and a good tax base. However, let's keep our town a town where people can live without having to live in an industrial environment.
