As you may be aware Doon Garda station has been identified as one of many rural garda stations to close. Doon is located in east Limerick and provides many amenities to its residents and those in the wider environs, but it is a nodal point for education and business. It is home to two secondary schools, two primary schools, a pre-school and creche. It boasts a pillar bank and a credit union. It also houses shops, public bars, hair dressers, garages, a hardware store and many other enterprises. Doon is also a rural area and without a Garda Station it is wide open to potential criminal activity and anti-social behaviour. We ask you the people of Doon and beyond to sign this petition to help save our Garda Station.

I have spent my mornings walking past the station and thinking about how quiet our streets will be without a local presence. Your stories about safety in our town remind me why we cannot let this facility disappear. I am currently working to bring our concerns directly to the officials responsible for this decision.

Seeing this level of support for our station gives me real hope that we can keep our community safe. My neighbors and I have spent so many nights worrying about the future of our town, but this momentum shows we are not fighting alone.

Living in Doon for 20 years and its madness to close this. Who is going to look after the area now?

Totally ridiculous. Rural crime is already bad enough without taking away the only presence we have left.

Keep the station open. We need the local gardai in town not stationed miles away when trouble starts.

Not happy about this at all. Everything is being taken from our village one by one. Leave us be.

Think of the schools and the kids. We need the security for the village.
