Brixham Coastguard Station is scheduled for closure in recently announced Government cuts. With Falmouth Coastguard due to be reduced to "daytime only" this means that often the nearest Coastguard station will be at Southampton, approximately 120 miles away. Given central Government's dimal record on centralisation schemes these cuts are highly likely to cost lives in the long term. In these dire economic times some "belt tightening" is clearly necessary but cutting vital coastguard cover around the UK is total madness & shows total contempt for our mariners.
