Brixham Coastguard Station is scheduled for closure in recently announced Government cuts. With Falmouth Coastguard due to be reduced to "daytime only" this means that often the nearest Coastguard station will be at Southampton, approximately 120 miles away.
Given central Government's dimal record on centralisation schemes these cuts are highly likely to cost lives in the long term.
In these dire economic times some "belt tightening" is clearly necessary but cutting vital coastguard cover around the UK is total madness & shows total contempt for our mariners.
Please sign this petition to show your support for Brixham Coastguard in the hope that these cuts can be overturned.
We are approaching one hundred signatures and I intend to present this initial list to the local port authority as soon as we cross that threshold. Please ensure your networks are aware of this petition today so we can finalize the documentation for our submission.

Cut more government waste, not front line marine safety like Brixham Coastguard.

it would be a tragic mistake to close the Torbay Lifeboat Station, It will only take the loss of one life for the realisation of what an asset it is, and then it will be too late, how can finances come into the equation against human life.

Brixham station is vital. Sending rescue coordination 120 miles away is absolute madness, local knowledge saves lives.
