This is a national issue which will be of direct concern to the people of West Oxfordshire District Council when DEFRA "rolls out" its culling policy in 2014.

The object of the petition is to ensure that West Oxfordshire District Council's badger population is as safe as possible from slaughter and that the already available injectable badger vaccine against bTB is used in as many cases as possible.

We ask this because we believe the culling policy is inhumane (DEFRA's measurement of "humaneness" is to time the screams of wounded badgers), inefficient (previous culls showed an increase in bTB because of badger movement) and unscientific (the majority of scientific opinion hold that a cull will have "no meaningful result").

To preserve the integrity of this petition please only sign it if you live, work or study in the West Oxfordshire District Council area.

For details of badger petitions in other parts of England, please contact B-R-A-V-E http://www.b-r-a-v-e.co.uk

We, the undersigned, call on West Oxfordshire District Council to prohibit the culling of badgers on council-owned land and invest in vaccination programmes locally. We ask this because we believe culling to be inhumane, inefficient and unscientific.

Killing wild animals that are already in decline and for the sake of bad science and careless and cruel farming methods is horrendous in its callousness and irresponsibility. It is time that this government did something positive for the environment for a change. After all, you did declare yourselves 'the greenest government ever'. Where's proof of this?

No basis for culling badgers Defra don't even know incidence of bovine TB and say figures given will have to be revised significantly downwards for 2012 and 2013. Already fallen steeply due to cattle measures

£4,000+ to kill each badger? And or the basis of poor science. No; we must re-think and vaccinate. This is barbarous.

Bovine TB is caused by cattle to cattle transmission. Even if every badger was culled bTB would still occur. Culling badgers is a complete waste of money and is in danger of eradicating a protected species.

Bovine TB is an industry problem that has spread to wildlife. Vaccinate the wildlife and improve animal husbandry DO NOT KILL THE WILDLIFE.
