This is a national issue which will be of direct concern to the people of South Cambridgeshire District Council when DEFRA "rolls out" its culling policy in 2014.
The object of the petition is to ensure that South Cambridgeshire District Council's badger population is as safe as possible from slaughter and that the already available injectable badger vaccine against bTB is used in as many cases as possible.
We ask this because we believe the culling policy is inhumane (DEFRA's measurement of "humaneness" is to time the screams of wounded badgers), inefficient (previous culls showed an increase in bTB because of badger movement) and unscientific (the majority of scientific opinion hold that a cull will have "no meaningful result").

We, the undersigned, call on South Cambridgeshire District Council to prohibit the culling of badgers on council-owned land and invest in vaccination programmes locally. We ask this because we believe culling to be inhumane, inefficient and unscientific.

Ex livestock farmer says NO to further culling of badgers. Spend the money on vaccines to stop the spread of the disease instead.
After the costly failure of the culls in Gloucestershire and Somerset we cannot allow this cruel, inhumane action to be repeated. Farmers must observe biosecurity measures, movement of cattle should be rigorously monitored and vaccination of both cattle and badgers should be enforced without delay
The combination of conflicting scientific evidence on the root cause of bTB and unavoidable cruelty involved in culling means that the vaccination approach is the only properly humane one for now. There are serious questions to be answered about the management of bovines and links to the disease. As a nation of animal lovers we must protect our badgers, not cause them suffering.
As a resident of Stapleford and South Cambridge, I object strongly to any proposed badger cull in this area and urge SCDC to prohibit the culling of this iconic and protected animal. The cull is inhumane, ineffective and unscientific. The government's chief scientist, Professor Sir John Beddington , opposed the cull. Lord Robert May, former government chief scientist and former president of the Royal Society opposed the 'cull'. Lord Krebs who conducted the previous 10 year 'cull' opposed this 'cull'. Professor John Bourne of the Independent Scientific Group on bovine TB (ISG) opposed it. Over 30 leading scientists signed a letter to the Observer in October 2012, opposing it. Please prohibit this cull in South Cambridgeshire.
Paterson has gone to ground, DEFRA have their own agenda. Tightening up of animal husbandry on farms and movement of cattle plus vaccination of cattle and badgers are the only way forward.
Stop this cruel cull
Despite public unease and a distinct lack of compelling scientfic evidence the pilot went ahead. Lets stop this vicious and unethical madness before more damage is done.

The trial cull was horrific and the science is dubious. Please don't allow these native animals to suffer cruelty and persecution. Use vaccines and stop the disease from spreading. This will be far more effective.
