OUR ECOLOGICAL WELFARE, OUR PUBLIC LAND AND UNIQUE BEACHES AS WELL AS OUR HEALTH, ARE BEING THREATENED.

PLEASE READ THIS INFO PROVIDED BY OUR GUARDIAN ORGANIZATION VCHT, EXPLAINING THIS THREE PRONGED ATTACK ON OUR ISLAND and THEN SIGN IMMEDIATELY. GRACIASJune 28, 2016

We have had knowledge this week of three events that will have a significant impact. At the stage where they are, just the voices of the citizens to legislators and the governor can stop them.

#1: PS 1621

That gives exclusivity in the use of la parguera and the entire coastal strip to the owners of holiday homes located illegally in this nature reserve and special planning area that is home to two of the bioluminescent water bodies of Puerto Rico; phosphorescent bay and monsio José. The Agency has indicated that these houses are illegal and must be removed years ago.

The area of the coast belongs to all of us, it is a well in the public domain. We repudiate that by means of a bill they privatise the land and maritime area wetlands and are the bases for this to happen in all of Puerto Rico. In addition, in a time of climate change and the rise in sea level, the public policy should be to go away the structures of the coast to protect lives and property.

The measure was adopted with amendments for what will be discussed in a committee of conference before Thursday.

#2: PS 2894

Proposes to diminish the wetland caño sharks by the pumping of water from the wetland, proposes limits to a natural reserve, orders drainage system and the construction of a road from the highway to the coast for the reservation. This project not only can have serious repercussions in the wetland, but may be disrupting aspects of federal laws as the clean water act,

The Pipe Sharks is one of the biggest estuarine wetlands of Puerto Rico with a territorial extent of approximately 7,000 strings. It is one of the most important places for birds in the whole country and place of international importance for migratory birds, recognized by the ornithological society of Puerto Rico (Sopi), birdlife international, birds Caribbean and National Wildlife Federation, among other prestigious organisations.

Only your voice can stop these attacks against the nature reserves that belong to us all. It is necessary to bring him the claim to the governor Alejandro García Padilla and his advises in legislative matters, raiza cajigas, calling fortress at 787 721-7000.

#3: Spray with naled

The CDC proposes to carry out a mass fumigation of Puerto Rico from the air (using planes) with naled insecticide, a broad spectrum of the decade of the 1950 that has the potential to affect the health of human beings, pollute the bodies Water and would have significant environmental impacts on the fish, the birds and the bees (we have included a sheet of data on their toxicity). Puerto Rico is one of the places in the world and the only one in the United States, where the hives of bees are not disappearing. Bees are of great importance for pollination; without them, would be a lot of crops and encarecerían others. Currently, farmers of the us are coming to Puerto Rico to find bees to pollinate their crops.

Only your voice can stop this attack against the health of all. It is necessary to bring him the claim to the governor Alejandro García Padilla calling fortress at 787 721-7000, to the secretary of health, Dr. Ana Rius, at 787 765-2929.

Updates

June 30, 2016

The threat to our coast is accelerating and we are currently pushing hard to get these bills in front of the right legislators. Call your representative today to demand they block the privatization of our public land. The momentum is building but we need you to keep the pressure on until these measures are dead.

June 30, 2016

We hit a major milestone that proves the public is watching these attempts to privatize our coast. Do not stop now because the committee of conference continues to deliberate. Call your legislator this afternoon and demand they reject PS 1621.

As a resident of Vieques, we understand the environment and the long term health of the people are more important than a quick fix to a long broken budget.

the clean up must be done done in a contained environment. And not dissimated in the air thus causing more contamination. People are dying due to this. All beaches need to be opened and given back to the people!

The very reason Vieques is so very special is that are beaches are open to every one. They belong to the people of Puerto Rico, not some millionaire developer who will ruin our paradise.
