To save the school of Urafirth and help the wider Community which connects to it.
Closing Urafirth School would would needlessly harm our childrens good education to save what appears to be very little money, and damage the core identity of our local community.
Northmavine covers a vast area of Shetland. Our children would be forced to travel much longer distances on B roads, up to 45 minutes without the inclusion of stoppage time to wait for kids, fasten seat belts etc. This could mean well over an hours journey each way for a lot of bairns in good weather. In bad weather such as snow and ice our children's safety would undoubtedly be put more at risk. This is not good enough in our modern society. What contingency plans are in place when a child, especially a very young child needs the toilet or is ill part way through the journey to school.
Please help to keep our bairns well educated and safe in a good modern school with a grass playing field & room for expansion
Please sign our petition. If we don't stand up now then all forthcoming generations will suffer.
My kids went there and got a great start. Urafirth is the heart of our area and the council is just looking at numbers on a page instead of the real people.

The roads in winter are bad enough without forcing young bairns to sit on a bus for over an hour. Keep the school open for the sake of the kids safety!
