Dear Sir or Madam,
I, the undersigned, am writing to you as a concerned avocado grower whose livelihood is in peril due to foreign avocado producers flooding US markets. These activities have resulted in market prices plunging to historic lows putting our entire US avocado industry in a position of incurring substantial injury unless corrective action is taken. If we do nothing, the US producers of avocados will perish as we can’t be economically viable under current or predicted future conditions.
Accordingly we ask that your office immediately begin the process of making a request to the International Trade Commission (ITC) to monitor imports of the Hass avocados under the perishable agricultural product provisions of section 202(d)(l) of the Trade Act, and Section 332 (g) of the Tariff of 1930. Such a request should emphasize that the ITC's fact-finding 90 day monitoring should take place during our domestic 2021 harvesting season, and include the collection and analysis of information that would expedite a potential 201 investigation.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many of you stepped up to help protect our local farms. This movement belongs entirely to the growers and neighbors who saw this struggle and decided to act.

This monitoring is overdue and will greatly benefit small California avocado growers like myself who are no longer profitable due to rising production cost and lower grower fruit pricing.
With the ever increasing water rates in the San Diego area in addition to the low prices due to imports, it won't be long until all avocado growers leave farming.
All of my friends are amazed at the higher quality taste and texture of California avocados (as opposed to the cheap imports at the grocery store)... please support our produce and our livelihood.
High water and labor costs can't compete with very low price imports, no matter how much technology spent especially unaffordable for small growers. There are many many small growers like us who years after years suffer from the ever increasing imported fruits cannot continue to survive.
This affects more than just avocado prices for us smaller growers whose homes are on our properties. Operating at a loss due to ever increasing dumping by foreign importers also decreases our home values.

CAC charges us so much money and posts ads at the tail end of our season meanwhile Avocados from Mexico ads are running all year long. They go to Paris and Chile on boondoggles at our expense. Absolutely worthless taxation we are forced to pay so they can do as the homeless, nothing!!!!!!! #Times Up CAC.

This is not about protectionism. It is about fair trade and a level playing field. Please collect data from foreign growers including subsidies, lack of regulatory costs, and other direct and indirect advantages that such growers have compared to domestic growers.
