The permit has been officially approved and that old tree will hold the house for a long time yet. It has been a long and exhausting road but I am deeply grateful to the people who stood by us through this. We are going to take a moment to breathe …

We built this treehouse in memory of our beloved Jack Chen, a devoted husband & father, who tragically died surfing in March, 2013. Jack and I had wanted to build a treehouse for our boys (Nicholas & Andrew) in the large Tipuana Tipu, or “Yellow Jacaranda” tree that was planted in the front yard of our property over 67 years ago when Rossmoor was first being developed. Now, the County of Orange is asking us to have the approval of our neighbors in order to process a permit application for the treehouse to remain (otherwise, we need to demolish it), so we need your support. Please help us save the Treehouse for all to enjoy (neighbors are always welcome)!

Seeing this level of support for the treehouse has been overwhelming during a time that feels very long and tiring. It is a relief to know that so many people understand why this place matters to my boys. I am exhausted by the fight but I am not stopping now.

The exhaustion is setting in but we are nearing the one thousand mark. If we reach that number it will be harder for the county to ignore us. Please push this out one more time so we have the leverage we need when we file these papers.

I was just over at the house across the street from the treehouse and happened to glance over and see it. It's fantastic. Even as an adult I thought, " I'd love to go up and see it"...I wish my boys had one like it when they were young! Good luck to you!!

PLEASE allow the Joni & her boys to keep their amazing treehouse!! Besides being a really cool (and safe) structure, it's a very respectful & emotional remembrance of their beloved husband/father, Jack Chen. PLEASE let them keep it!!!!

When I was in elementary school Construction workers building a home nearby donated their time and scrap building materials to make a treehouse for the local kids. It's mind boggling that you now need a $5000 permit--most family's could never afford that.

I lost my husband two years ago and if we had something special to honor him and someone made us take it down it would crush us. Memories and honoring loved ones who have past is all we have. How could someone try to even take that away from that family?!

We at St. Joseph Hospital loved Dr. Chen. He was extraordinarily kind and wonderful to patients and employees. Please give the family their tree house permit. The grief of his tragic death will be soothed by your compassionate response.

This treehouse is an amazing tribute to a father and husband. I cannot imagine a more constructive way for these boys to feel connected with their father. What kind of civics are they going to learn if the city insists that they tear this treehouse down?
