This petition has been set up to address the decision to turn the football pitch within the University track into a temporary car park.

Each and every car coming in and out of the central pitch compromises the session and safety of athletes using the already dilapidated track. The hundreds of people who come here weekly in search for a less polluted and unbroken circuit to improve their health and well being cannot and should not be expected to have their efforts blocked by vehicles throughout the day.

Much of the time, the track is also used in low light conditions or complete darkness just after work/uni hours where safety will be further compromised due to terrible lighting in the area.

While we understand the stresses of searching for parking spots, our problem is not a lack of space, but too many cars. The invasion of an athletic area in this manner is selfish, disrespectful and unsafe.

Such convenient temporary solutions have a tendency of becoming permanent, especially since parking will always be an issue in our country as it is, and only going to get worse. Give people some repreive. keep the cars out!

I run there often and I've seen families use the track on a sunny afternoon to kick a ball with their kids. It's not beautifully done up and is full of potholes and ruined turf, but it's still used by many. Turning it into a temporary car park could really damage the surrounding space.

The problem is not lack of parking space, it is too much cars. The young population at UoM surely can consider switching to alternative modes of sustainable transport such as bicycles rather than occupy a space reserved for fitness with their parked cars.

I've run on that track on a regular basis since I was 12 years old. I'm now 38 years old, and I've represented Malta in triathlon races abroad for the past 20 years. This track needs an upgrade, not a downgrade! It's in constant use!

This track is very useful for any person willing to work out. My friends and I spend hours there, as well as a lot of people of all age and all origins. More than a running track this place is part of the local social environment.

The track is used by athletes and families who want to exercise away from traffic and cars. Having a constant interruption by car coming in and leaving is not only inconvenient but dangerous! Alternative solution should be found to keep the track car-free

Keep the core of Soldier's Field without asphalt. As much money as our city (we taxpayers) spends on DMC projects, we can put some of those resources into a permeable material for the track to keep it both user and environmentally friendly.
