Save the Middle Haddam Historic District - Say "No" to 8-Lot Subdivision on Long Hill Road
To: Members of East Hampton’s Planning and Zoning Commission
We, the undersigned, oppose the application by Long Hill Estates, LLC, to create an 8-lot subdivision at the gateway to the Middle Haddam Historic District. The District is significant for its concentration of 18th-19th architecture signifying the first 150 years of our nation’s maritime history and the scale of this housing development within its boundaries threatens to dilute its narrative. It also negatively impacts wetlands, a watercourse and spring and will destroy the wooded buffer between the commercial noise of Route 66 and the quiet rural village of Middle Haddam. Please preserve our heritage and uphold East Hampton’s Plan of Conservation and Development that prioritizes the preservation and protection of our natural and historic resources, by opposing Application PZC-21-009.

im still reading through all the comments people are leaving and its clear so many of you care just as much about saving these woods as i do. we have been busy prepping for the next hearing and your support gives us a lot more weight when we walk into those meetings.

wow i am honestly blown away by the momentum this is picking up. its clear so many people care about keeping the historic district the way it is and it feels good to know were all on the same page.

we are almost at 100 signatures and i really need everyone to grab a friend or neighbor to sign before we hit that mark. the planning and zoning commission is going to pay way more attention once we clear triple digits so let's get there today.

There's no community demand or need for this additional housing stock. Building it is expressly against the wishes of the MHHD residents. It reduces rather than improves their quality of life. Where's the justification for allowing it?
There is also a question of precedent here. If this development is allowed then why not further ones in the MH Historic District?
The MH Historic District is a piece of irreplaceable history and should not be split up for development. I grew up around here and value this important part of our CT heritage.
I chose to live in Middle Haddam because of its historic charm. Please do not allow a generic housing development within the Historic District.
It concerns me that developers can withdraw proposals and resubmit new ones this close to a hearing. How easy for the developer to do and how incredibly hard for anyone who opposes to reorganize on such short notice. It’s absolutely unfair to allow this application to even be considered at this hearing on April the 7th.
This area MUST be preserved!

This could have a very negative impact to my property, due to the water run off and the trees that will be removed.
