I want to thank everybody for signing this petition. I am disappointed and ashamed about my lack of support from both Penn Dot and Oakmont. Oakmont now just becomes an ordinary little town that has lost its character and its soul. That bridge could have and should have been saved. I grieve that I will not ever be able to go experience that beauty again and for future generations of dreamers and engineers that could be inspired by this beautiful relic of the past when engineers actually factored in aesthetics.

It is unfathomable that this elegant truss bridge shall be blown up within a year. The ignorant technocrats at Penndot and Gannett Fleming need to be stopped in their efforts to demolish Western PAs historic steel truss bridges and replace them with bland slabs. It is a travesty that most of these bridges are denied historical status, only to be memorialized with historic markers after demolition. There must be better ways to update Western PAs traffic infrastructure.

My grandfather worked on that steel. Its a local landmark and they just want to throw it in the scrap heap for some ugly concrete thing. Dont let them do it.
