The demolition plans have been officially scrapped and the Godbold is safe. I am truly stunned by what you all achieved together because this belongs entirely to you. We should stay alert to ensure it stays protected for the future.

Final supporters
There are many reasons people want to save historic buildings like the Godbold. For most of us, historic buildings create an emotional bond with the place, and it represents a part of the City. Lubbock has limited inventory of such historical buildings, and the Godbold is one of them. It is facing a real threat of demolition to make room for a chain motel.
Make it Historic! Don't Bulldoze it! Save the Godbold!

I have been overwhelmed by the memories you are sharing about the Godbold and I am just trying to keep up with your stories. It is becoming clear that this building holds a piece of our history that belongs to all of you. I am currently organizing these accounts to present them to the city council.

this is one of the few remaining historical landmarks we have. It was lubbocks very first hospital, having a building that old should not be torn down for more hotels. when there is plenty of land to build on.
We lost Tara West...we have lost all the beautiful Art Deco buildings on Avenue Q...and most of our old homes around Texas Tech. Enough is enough!!!

What a shame to have such an architecturally and historically beautiful building next to Techs wonderful campus and then replace it with a commercial atrocity. It will ruin the look of the neighborhood and what an eye sore to look at from across campus...
I will purchase the building
In any other city this building would have been renovated years ago.

The St Mary of the Plains Hospital provided essential medical care for Lubbock and the surrounding community at a critical time in the development of the area. It was a forerunner to the medical center that Lubbock is today. As the Godbold, fine arts and fine dining have provided a community focus and service. Save the Godbold.
