I am writing on behalf of all present and future designers and manufacturers to express concern about the future of the Garment Center.
New York is the fashion capital of the world, and the hundreds of small businesses in the Garment Center are the industry’s backbone. Garment Center businesses to need The Center’s sample rooms, cut and sew contractors, pattern making services and fabric and trim suppliers are crucial to our company’s ability to develop new products, to carry out quick-to-market, reorder and high end production. There are many fashion companies that rely on a functioning Garment Center, yet we are beginning to see alarming numbers of support businesses lose their leases. We therefore respectfully ask that the revised zoning will provide enough space for a sufficient production and supplier core, there are still more than 1 million sq. ft. in production and logistical support in use in the Garment Center losing much more of the space that these support businesses currently occupy, which is a small fraction of the Center’s overall space, would harm the fashion industry in ways that no one can foresee.
Save the Garment Center would like to preserve the fashion industry support system that provides 180,000 jobs for New Yorkers, and is part of that constellation of industries that make New York City the creative capital of the United States.

The scale of this response now allows us to request a formal briefing with the Department of City Planning. My team is currently finalizing the briefing materials to ensure our specific zoning requirements are front and center during these upcoming discussions.

I worked in NY's garment center for 30 years. It is an iconic part of NY and I hope to see this continue IN MANHATTAN.
The Garment Center IS NYC & internationally known. Loosing the Garment Center in NYC would MEAN the END of NYC Fashion!!! And then we would all have to move to LA.
The best industry in the world, with the hardest working individuals. This industry NEEDS to be saved and brought back to its heyday. Once a thriving bazaar that people marveled at but now somewhat of a ghost town with its community spreading looking for cheaper alternatives. This is not the way an industry should be. When we pool together our resources we are stronger. When we are spread we are weaker. Lets come together and save our garment center!
I graduated FIT in 1988 and am broken hearted over the loss of companies & jobs here in NY. Please help save a NYC industry known worldwide!!
I worked in the garment center when I graduated from FIT! I gained experience that helped me establish myself in my field. I strongly support saving the garment center!
We need jobs and people working...TRAIN THE YOUNG TO BE ABLE TO HELP KEEP THING S IN THE USA. RENT IS CRAZY NO NEED TO BE RIDICULOUS...HIRE PEOPLE..OPEN UP A BETTER MIND SET

We can't keep letting these factories close down, if anything they need to expand. They need rent control, before the landlords push them out due to greed. Make the fashion industry a better place, and save the garment center.
