Cornwall Council wish to redevelop the former Carclaze Infant School as 'car parking and affordable housing'.
Built in the 1880's, this beautiful community building served the local area for over 130 years, until closure in 2010, due to the new Carclaze primary school opening.
We believe that this historic, community building should be saved. Cornwall Council have a history of neglecting historic buildings, and allowing them to deteriorate to the point that demolition is the cheapest option. The former infant school has only been vacant for six years, and still has obvious potential for renovation and community re-use once again.
The former Infant School building should be retained, with part as a community facility, and part converted to affordable accommodation to fund renovation costs.
Cornwall Council are planning how to begin site redevelopment at this very moment, and the future existence of the building is looking bleak.
The only way this has a chance of ending in a positive outcome is with COMMUNITY SUPPORT.
Please sign our petition to show your support, and to show Cornwall Council that they should not be allowed to bring in the bulldozers!

Its easier to flatten it than lift a education only restriction? Thats just laziness and unnecessarily removing more character and history from the town. Councillors need to be more open minded and not use budgets as the excuse for everything.
As an ex volunteer adult instructor with St Austell Sea Cadets this building would make a great HQ for the Sea Cadets. This organisation with the aid of Naval training shapes our youth to make them responsible citizens and an asset to their local community.
It would be a complete travesty if this building were demolished and cheap 'rabbit hutch' housing or concrete car park left in its place. This is a beautiful, historic and iconic building. If anything it should be listed and preserved.
Please save this wonderful old building; it's history of service deserves better than neglect and unnecessary decay. It served generations of children in this community, including my children. It has a history, let it have a future!!
Some of my happiest childhood memories are housed in this stunning building as I'm sure are so many other local people's! Please save it from being knocked down for parking, this community needs to be supported and encouraged to get back community spirit!

If this proposal goes ahead then it will be further evidence of this County Council disregarding the heritage and beauty of our historic County on the alter of sacrifice to the motor car and the short term saving of money with no proper regard for the future.
