The environment Agency are proposing to flood some of the fields along the river bank in Calstock. If this ill-thought out scheme goes ahead, these fields will be lost to the village for good. The annual Bike Show will be one of the major casualties of this flooding. These fields are vital for camping for the event. As well as being a firm favourite family event, the bike show, every single year, pumps thousands of pounds back into the local community through donations. For instance, in recent years, the Bike Show has donated as much as £1500.00 each, annually, to the Primary School, the Rowing Club & the Football club, as well as many smaller amounts to other local causes. On top of this, money raised from the show also funds the two annual huge firework displays, and brings a much needed revenue boost to many other local businesses. We need your help to stop this scheme going ahead. We have the full support of our local M.P. Sheryll Murray, and many villagers are also already behind us. Details the Environment Agency proposals can be seen at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/calstock-flood-defence-improvement-scheme/calstock-flood-defence-improvement-scheme
Please sign the petition and, if you have the time, you can email Sheryll Murray direct at [email protected] and also the Environment Agency persons responsible for the proposal [email protected] & [email protected]
Many thanks. Your support will be greatly appreciated, and will assist us in our fight against this rash & uneconomic proposal.

Seeing five hundred names on this list feels incredible. My family has spent countless hours on those fields and knowing so many of you want to protect them for the village means more than I can say.

Seeing one hundred people stand up for our river banks gives me real hope for the future of our village. These fields have meant so much to my family for years and it feels incredible to know so many of you care about their survival too.

What considerations have been made for the wildlife that lives in these meadows. Also the bike event brings money into the town and would be unworkable without the camping available at present in the fields. What other solutions have been discussed, can't see any.
Every community needs community space. Calstock’s population is growing. We need to protect this space for the future of the village and its changing needs. This scheme strikes me as short term financial gain and long term community pain.
Totally unnecessary and will do more harm than good to a fantastic closeknit community. Leave well alone. There are far more suitable places along the Tamar to flood than using vital amenity land.
We have attended Calstick Bike Rally over many years. As well as bringing so much joy to so many people, it also creates extra, much appreciated revenue to the village primary school, rowing and football clubs, not forgetting the pubs/restaurants.
This must not be allowed ! The bike show is now a local highlight & institution & does nothing but good for the local community , to lose the camping fields would effectively kill the bike show .
I am part of the younger generation, and i find it disgusting that the Environment agency are willing to flood some of the fields, and destroy some of our amazing community, not only will it disable the events we have on the fields, it will make calstock stink, so i wish a huge f##k you to the environment Agency that feel like they can destroy our village.
This field is a village amenity and should be kept for events camping etc...it is the heart of the village and if lost part of Calstocks identity goes with it. Save the field..

The river bank path is a much treasured foot path for local residents and visitors. I fear that flooding these scenic farming fields and loosing the river bank path will have a detrimental effect on the health and well-being of local residents.
