The Avenue is officially ours and I am honestly shaking because after all this time the Cedarwood Trust actually pulled it off. We have a space now for everyone on the estate and I am so relieved that we can finally move forward with the renovations without looking over our …

We the undersigned support the proposal by the Cedarwood Trust to purchase and develop the building currently known as the Avenue, on Avon Avenue, as a Community Centre for the benefit of residents of the Estate

I never really thought people would care this much about that old building, but seeing all this energy makes my head spin in the best way possible. It is honestly bizarre to see the neighborhood coming together like this and I keep refreshing the page just to make sure I am not dreaming.

Cedarwood Centre has helped build a creative community in the best sense of the word. It deserves the support of Church and council as the kind of partnership that can bring hope in difficult times.

Cedarwood is the only organisation on Meadowell that has continued to provide service while all other services come and go at the council's whim. The fact that Cedarwood still exists is testament to the fact that the People want it to continue.

Cedarwood do immensely vital work supporting some of the most vulnerable in the community. Their current base is no longer big or practical enough. Moving to the Avenue would be good for Cedarwood and, more importantly, the community.

If the building is knocked down it is said affordable housing can be built. As one of the local clergy I believe community resources are needed more than housing in this area.

Cedarwood does great work on the Estate is in closer touch with people than many other services so can do early intervention and save money, and expensive later treatments , as so much of its work does.

As former parish priest of St Joseph's on the estate and former Cedarwood Trustee I am delighted to support this venture for the Trust in the building which celebrated its first birthday in the year I came to North Shields.

I would like to support the petition because of my link with the original Cedarwood Centre where I worked and lived with a colleague when the Centre opened in 1979. The ongoing work of the current centre is of great value to the residents of the Meadowell estate and development of the building opposite as a community centre will add much needed facilities and support.

Why not fix the newly built homes that are smashed to bits opposite the Avenue? That's proof more houses is not the answer, more police been called out, since they were built! Let alone an eyesore!
