They actually listened and the programs are staying which honestly feels surreal after all that stress. It is just so wild to see 295 people actually change the outcome of a board vote and I am going to try to get some sleep tonight because wow.

I have been reading through the comments all morning and honestly the stories about how these departments shaped your lives are just gut-wrenching. It is hard to believe they would even consider cutting these programs when they clearly mean so much to the people who actually walked these halls. Things are moving fast behind the scenes so I am spending my entire day drafting letters to the board and trying to make sure they see every single one of these names before the vote.

My late husband and I are both graduates of IWC, he in '88 with a bachelor's in music education (a program on the chopping block), and I in psychology. Cutting music and art, communications, and secondary education will not fix your problems, not in the long run.
Sad to see this happening. I know something needs to be done to save the college but I feel alumni and other supporters could have been notified to help raise money to keep these programs going. Something this serious shouldn't be left for discussions behind closed doors. Hoping for the best for IWC and all of its programs!
without arts programs, we become a technical or trade school. Learning about the different arts, history, languages is what teaches you how to think for yourself, how to reason --- not how to memorize facts and specific skills good for only one task
This is not a good choice. My daughter was contemplating her college career at Iowa Wesleyan. She is extremely interested in the arts. I am an alumni of Iowa Wesleyan class of 1996. Please don't do this.
I graduated in '10 with a BA in History, and a minor in English. Had I not had the music department (I played trombone and sang), I would have been at a loss for what to do at IWC for four years as I don't play a sport. The arts (and education programs) are a vital part of the college and should be saved!

Surely the magnificient Valentine's Day Music Program was a HUGE show of support for the IWC music program. Please reconsider the devastative effects the closure will have on the college and all of SE Iowa and beyond.

IWC is the oldest college west of the Mississippi. It has a long tradition of music the the arts; of training quality teachers who bring this valuable resource to students throughout southeast Iowa. The arts education programs are a vital part of IWC. Please reconsider.
