These budget cuts will eliminate art, music, physical education and library from the current curriculum while at the middle school level it will force a reduction in foreign language and technology classes. Some arts classes will be replaced with Citizenship classes.
Many of us are products of the Upper Darby School District, or have children in the district and greatly value a well rounded education. Art, music, physical education, library, foreign language and technology are paramount to the development of our children just as much as the core curriculum. In fact, evidence based research shows that children exposed to the arts do better in reading, math, science and excel as adults more.
We want Tom Corbett to join us at the May 23rd meeting at Upper Darby High School's Performing Arts Center. With 1000 signatures, this may be possible, which is the purpose of this petition.

I really did not think this would take off like it has and my notifications are absolutely exploding right now which is a good problem to have but wow. Seeing all these people jump in makes me feel like we might actually have a shot at getting some attention from the administration on this issue because schools are just so much more than test scores.

My kids love their art classes. You cant just take that away its cruel to the students who actually look forward to school because of these programs.
Total garbage. Corbett needs to stop targeting the schools and find the money elsewhere. Music and gym are just as important as math.

Keep the arts in UD!! My daughter is in the band and it changed her life.
