This is an issue which may well be of concern to the people of Wales in the very near future. At present there is no culling of badgers in Wales and badger vaccination programmes are being successfully carried out.

The Welsh Assembly is, however, under pressure to change this policy, to allow the slaughter of badgers across Wales and to end the vaccination programmes.

This petition (and others across Wales) is being set up to give our badger population protection against these possible changes.

It gives local people the chance to have their say and it gives local councils the chance to protect badgers on council-owned land and to invest in local badger vaccination projects.

To preserve the integrity of this petition please only sign it if you live, work or study in the City and County of Swansea.

For details of badger petitions please contact B-R-A-V-E http://www.b-r-a-v-e.co.uk

We, the undersigned, call on the City and County of Swansea to prohibit the culling of badgers on council-owned land and invest in vaccination programmes locally. We ask this because we believe culling to be inhumane, inefficient and unscientific.

Updates

November 29, 2013

The current momentum confirms that local opposition to culling is substantial enough to warrant a formal briefing with council representatives. Our team is currently drafting a proposal to present the data collected through this petition to the relevant local authorities.

Badger culling has been shown to be ineffective in the reduction of bovine TB. Keep up the good work and don't bow to pressure to go back to culling

Congratulations to the citizens of the city and area of Swansea in continuing to make their opinion heard in the Welsh Assembly to pursue a vaccination programme for cattle and not an irrational culling of badgers.

The cull is wrong in every sense, it must not be allowed to happen any more or any where else. There are cattle on the Isle of Wight who have TB and there are no badgers there - this proves it is not badgers that are spreading TB it is cattle. Many scientists have said it is not badgers to blame for the spread of TB in cattle but the government has chosen to ignore this. They aren't even testing the culled badgers for TB, so they can't be proved wrong in doing it.

Vaccination programme in Wales must continue. We can show the rest of the country that this is the approach all counties should take.

badgers have been a part of the british countryside for thousands of years and they should be left alone.
