This is a national issue which will be of direct concern to the people of Plymouth CityCouncil when DEFRA "rolls out" its culling policy in 2014.
The object of the petition is to ensure that Plymouth City Council's badger population is as safe as possible from slaughter and that the already available injectable badger vaccine against bTB is used in as many cases as possible.
We ask this because we believe the culling policy is inhumane (DEFRA's measurement of "humaneness" is to time the screams of wounded badgers), inefficient (previous culls showed an increase in bTB because of badger movement) and unscientific (the majority of scientific opinion hold that a cull will have "no meaningful result").
To preserve the integrity of this petition please only sign it if you live, work or study in the Plymouth City Council area.

Seeing so many of you echo my own fears about these animals proves that we will not let them be slaughtered on our land without a fight. I am currently working to get a meeting on the books with council members to demand they choose vaccination over bullets.

Seeing this kind of momentum feels like a weight lifting off my chest. It humbles me to realize so many of you share this deep concern for the local wildlife that has always been such a vital part of our home.

Plymouth should be celebrating its badger population not placing them under treat. Badger's bring the wonders of nature and life to an area. They are a pleasure and an asset. They are our national identity. They have learn't to live with us and we should do the same. Vaccinate and protect Plymouth's badgers and leave them alone to live the lives that they that a right to.
My father was born in Plymouth and I still holiday there each year. I will be heartbroken if the council allows badgers to be murdered in their land and will not be able to holiday there anymore. Please do not allow culling on council land.
Vaccination of both cattle and badgers is the only credible way forward. Devon has one of the largest, if no the largest group of volunteer badger vaccinators in the country, who will vaccinated badgers for just the cost of the vaccine. As well as being humane, causing no disruption to either the badgers or to rural communities, this is also far cheaper than hosting a badger cull.
This is the most humane and sensible way to go. The culls are proven to be unscientific, inhumane and non effective as well as a total waste of taxpayers money. Get the public on your side, vaccinate NOT exterminate.
stop this barbaric cull, not one badger was tested for TB in the last cull, and there is an alternative to cage trapping and shooting its called vaccination !!. if this cull comes to Devon it will kill off our tourism industry as there will be so much opposition to it everyone will know that devon and cornwall kills badgers so a big no no !!
The 60 million rats in the U.K probably spread T.B more than badgers.The vaccine sounds very promising.Please let us try this option.
Stop this inhumane culling its proved to have no meaningful result. Promote the vaccine against bTB which would provide a better result

Deny access to Council owned land for the purpose of culling Badgers. Indeginous wildlife should not be being killed on a whim when other methods are available. No wildlife should face persecution due to farming and livesock issues, vacinate not terminate.
