This is a national issue which will be of direct concern to the people of the Suffolk County Council area when DEFRA "rolls out" its culling policy in 2014.
The object of the petition is to ensure that Suffolk County Council's badger population is as safe as possible from slaughter and that the already available injectable badger vaccine against bTB is used in as many cases as possible.
We ask this because we believe the culling policy is inhumane (DEFRA's measurement of "humaneness" is to time the screams of wounded badgers), inefficient (previous culls showed an increase in bTB because of badger movement) and unscientific (the majority of scientific opinion hold that a cull will have "no meaningful result").

We, the undersigned, call on Suffolk County Council to prohibit the culling of badgers on council-owned land and invest in vaccination programmes locally. We ask this because we believe culling to be inhumane, inefficient and unscientific.

Seeing one hundred people from Suffolk sign this gives me so much hope for our local badgers. I find it deeply comforting to know that I am not alone in wanting to protect these creatures from such an unnecessary fate.

The numbers are rising steadily and I need us to hit that first hundred before I reach out to the council members. Please post the link to your own social media pages so our local representatives see how many people in Suffolk truly care about these animals.

The cull in Gloucestershire has been a disastrous mistake; ineffectual, very expensive and unscientific with no testing of the badgers that were killed so no proof that they were carrying bTB at all. Please prevent this senseless act from happening in Suffolk.
In Gloucestershire they extended the cull because they hadn't killed enough badgers to meet the quota! Maybe this is because DEFRA have no idea how many badgers there are. Supporting Suffolk to stop this mistaken behaviour.
We should care for all our wildlife. We have a vaccine lets use it and with stricter bio security we can build on the reduction in bTB that we have already started to experience due to stricter cattle movements.
How many 'culled' badgers are tested for TB? Farmers on the Felixstowe peninsular were concerned about bovine TB in the 1950s.Almost every farm had cattle then, I don't think there was a badger in the area in those days
I have short breaks in Suffolk, often Yoxford. I have vowed never to support a politically motivated cull by being particular where i spend my money, not just leisure. Vaccination & movement restrictions only proven method, not destroying wildlife.
Badger culling should be stopped NOW it is inhuman. We can’t believe we are living in such a barbaric country the way we treat our beautiful animals is discussing. It needs to STOP now if people were to hear the cries and screams of these beautiful harmless animals they would not believe it and some laid in their dens for days suffering and in pain before they died. Even the gassing that this heartless government allows should be BAND!! as well.
The badger cull proved scientifically and financially (not to mention morally) that the cull was an unmitigated disaster. The decent thing for Owen Patterson et al to do now is admit that and go with the vaccination program.

Considering the massive cost that was incurred by the recent badger cull (quite apart from the obvious cruelty involved) and the fact that it is inhumane, ineffective and unnecessary I would ask Suffolk County Council to reject such a cull in this area.
