They actually listened and the proposal to merge is off the table completely so St Leonard stays exactly as it is. I am still honestly reeling from the news but we did it and I am just so happy that we kept this place for the community despite how long …

The PCC of Chelsham, St Leonard vehemently reject the draft proposal from the Diocese of Southwark, reference DMPC/303k/aml dated 24 May 2013 for the union of the parish of Warlingham and the parish of Chelsham, and for St. Leonard's to become a Chapel of Ease.

This is a church with an active congregation - as evident by the annual Horse & Dog Show, held at Fickleshole Farm, organised by Gillian Cooper. Below are a few photos from recent events;

A Great day was had by all - thank you to all who came, and made generous donations. All funds will be used to maintain the church and it's grounds.

This is just one example of how active the church is...... Therefore, we vehementlyrejectthe idea of a merger of the two parish Churches.

Members of the church are currently circulating a petition for people in the local community, including the school, to sign in order to protest against this decision. We are still looking for even more support, and would very much appreciate help from the wider areas to stop this happening.

So please, show your support today.

Thank you.

I spent the entire morning digging through old archives because the Diocese still refuses to look at how much this church means to Fickleshole. People keep sending me these beautiful stories about the horse show and it honestly makes me wonder if they even understand that we are a living community rather than just a line item on their spreadsheet.

I just looked at the count and we hit one hundred which is honestly wild because I remember just sitting here thinking maybe ten people would care about what happens to St Leonard's. My head is spinning a bit because I keep thinking about the horse show and how much life is actually in these walls despite what the diocese seems to think.

I believe my great grandfather and his siblings were christened here. This ,I believe was the family church back then, during the late 1800's. So, I would be very disappointed for this beautiful church to lose its status. I would come to the services, but I live in America.

Been going to the horse show for years. Its a proper community event and we need this church to stay open.

Ridiculous decision. This place is the heart of the community and they just want to ruin it for a spreadsheet.

My grandmother was married here in 1954 and my family has lived in the village for years. Leave our church alone!

SO WRONG. The diocese has no idea what they are throwing away.
