Southend-on-Sea City Council has not consulted the community about turning Southend Marine Activities Centre into public toilets and offices for the Southend Foreshore Team along with a restaurant that most of the community cannot attend due to the Exorbitant food and drinks prices.

There are over 2,700 Jetkiers launching and enjoying the beach with their family and friend however, Southend Council wants to remove their rights of access along the entire Seafront from Southend to Benfleet and Canvey Island with a PWC Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) directed solely at the Jetski community without consultation with this community on their needs, implementation of safety measures, safety ribs or monitoring the foreshore team are enforcing the local bylaws of the seafront.

Southend Marine Activities Centre and Shoebury Ness Road Slipway are an Asset of Community Value due to Urban Cure CIC commitment to our community. But this has not given us the power to save our assets from local planning laws or shift the balance of power and control from Southend Council.

Southend City Council have not transferred these facilities for community use but will continue their PSPO order and toilet venture. This will negatively impact our resident's health and wellbeing, job opportunities and community growth and dismantle our historic heritage and community water sport.

We MUST hold our council accountable to their legal obligations, responsibilities, duties and every decision made about our community assets. We need to challenge to change their cultural by; a mandatory Annual Declaration of Interest signed by all council officers and councillors and ensure a Community Asset Transfer Policy that gives residents the right to manage their Asset of Community Value for our future generation, bringing Southend Council in line with all local authority in the UK.

Let our voices be heard, united we will win!

We the undersign petition the council to consult us the community on how these facilities are used now and for the future of the next generations; by transparency, fairness and consistency in how their decisions are made by implementing a mandatory Annual Declaration of Interest signed by all council officers and councillors and ensure a Community Asset Transfer Policy that gives residents the rights to manage their Asset of Community Value for our future generation, bringing Southend Council in line with all other local authority across the United Kingdom.
