We have recently read through the West Orange BOE minutes and learned that Mr. Dorey has resigned and will not be continuing at Gregory School next year. As many of you know, Mr. Dorey is an exceptional, hands-on teacher who has greatly enriched the lives of his students, never doubting our children's ability to achieve beyond the expectations placed upon them. The loss of this innovative and resourceful teacher is not just a loss for the special needs students of our community, but for Gregory School as a whole.

As the parents of the students of Gregory School and as members of the West Orange community, we wish to declare that we are extremely disheartened by this resignation. We view his departure as a failure on behalf of the district and a troubling indication that they are ill-equipped to properly advocate on behalf of our students. It is our hope that in calling attention to this egregious mistake, we can prevent the further erosion of our assets and remind this administration that they need to be proactive in ensuring that our district recognizes, attracts, and retains quality educators for our children...educators like Mr. Dorey.

No action is irreversible, no decision truly final, and we hope that you will join us in our efforts to make sure the Board of Education is aware of what a loss Mr. Dorey's resignation is to our school.

Thank you!

I honestly am just pacing around my kitchen right now because I never thought this would gain so much speed. It feels like people are finally noticing how much we actually stand to lose if Mr. Dorey leaves the school for good. My phone has been vibrating constantly all morning and it makes me think maybe they actually will have to listen to us after all.

Mr Dorey has done wonders for my little neighbor. I hope he will be able to continue to inspire other troubled youngsters.

I have heard wonderful things about Mr. Dorey and the impact he has with his students. To allow someone who connects so well with their students to leave is difficult to fathom or accept.

Mr. Dorey has been a compassionate, patient, and superb teacher. The children flourish under his tutelage and discover their gifts. Let me ask you - Isn't this what we all want for our children? Claudia Cheyne-Cook

If Stace says he's good - he's good!
