Final supporters
Cheshire West and Cheshire Council have recently given notice to all 169 Weaverham High school pupils who currently use the free school bus service from Cuddington & Sandiway that from 1st April 2016 their buses will no longer run.
They believe that by adding a pedestrian crossing to the A49 at the new Eden Grange houses that the route down the A49 is now a safe walking route.
This has been done, as far as we're aware, without any consultation with us (parents) or the school.
We therefore call upon the council to:
1) Investigate the safety of the waling route along the A49 in more detail
2) Investigate other suitable walking routes
3) Reconsider plans to stop he free school travel assistance
4) Fully consul with the local residents on any future plans

Our daughter is one of the children that this decision will affect. We are really concerned that a money saving opportunity has taken priority of the safety of our and other children. This really needs to be reversed.
There is no where safe on the A49 for children to walk to school, and as an extra worry the lights at Eden Grange only stop one half of the traffic at a time. And given the amount of accidents at those lights in the last year alone it is obviously not safe for the children.
This is a seriously flawed decision. The shortest way from Sandiway to Wraverham is along an unlit single-carriageway country road (Weaverham Rd). . People do not walk half a mile to use a footpath, they use the shortest route.
It would be such a shame to lose our bus. The so called 'safe' walking route is anything but which means traffic to school will increase as concerned parents take their children to school & our children will lose independence of travelling to and from school with their friends.
It is nowhere near safe enough for the kids to walk to school plus they will have to walk 2.8 miles and it will take 59 minutes to get there. So before they have even got to school they will be tired and will not be prepared for learning
From my experience of driving regularly along the A49 at that location I cannot understand how CWAC can state it is a safe walking route. It is a busy trunk road with a 60mph speed limit. If a child were to make a mistake and end up on the road they would be killed.
I wholeheartedly support this cause. I am more than happy for my 11year old son to walk to school but for the route (path less than 5feet away from traffic moving in excess of 60mph with no barrier) to be deemed safe, is unacceptable. It will only take one injury or death to validate what the parents of Cuddington have been saying all along.

I teach at Cuddington Primary, how can parents walk to the high school for 8.30 and back to Cuddington Primary with younger children And toddlers or babies in push chairs? This puts whole families at risk, I thought safe guarding was important!
