Save The Dogs Of South Dhaka

In South Dhaka there are around 30,000 roaming stray dogs in our neighborhoods. Although these dogs live on our streets they are loved and taken care of by us.

What’s going on?
Recently Dhaka South City Corporation(DSCC) has made a plan to “relocate” these stray dogs to create a better environment for people because apparently they were “creating problems” and there were “objections” against them.

According to media reports these dogs are being drugged, sedated only to be left in the Mautuail landfill, which is a garbage dump, where they are being left to survive on their own.

Which realistically means they are being left to die.

It is important to note that some of these dogs have collars on them to show they have owners, are vaccinated and already sterilized but these dog catchers are not taking that into consideration which means they are not being properly monitored.

Is this legal?
No, this is a violation of Section 7 of the Animal Welfare Act 2019 which shows that no animals including stray dogs cannot be removed or relocated..

What could’ve been done instead:
Dhaka North City Cooperation (DNCC) has also taken upon themselves to control the stray dog situation in North Dhaka but in a more ethical approach. They are investing in sterilizing and vaccinating stray dogs in order to control over population and disease.

সংবাদ মাধ্যমে প্রকাশিত তথ্য অনুযায়ী, সম্প্রতি ঢাকা দক্ষিণ সিটি করপোরেশন নিজ এলাকার লোকজনের জন্য নিরাপদ পরিবেশ নিশ্চিত করতে বেওয়ারিশ কুকুরগুলোকে অন্যত্র সরিয়ে দেওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে। কারণ এই কুকুরগুলো নাকি সমস্যা সৃষ্টি করছে এবং তাদের বিরুদ্ধে অভিযোগ আছে।

আদপে যার মানে হলো, মরার জন্য তাদের সেখানে ফেলে আসা হচ্ছে।

এটা জানা খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ যে এই কুকুরদের কোনো কোনোটার গলায় বেল্ট আছে, অর্থাৎ তাদের মালিক আছে। তাদের ভ্যাকসিন দেওয়া আছে। স্টেরিলাইজ করা। কিন্তু এই কুকুর ধরার দল তাদের কোনো কিছুই বিবেচনায় নিচ্ছে না। অর্থাৎ তারা কিছুই খেয়াল করছে না।

এটা কী আইনসম্মত?

না, এটা স্পষ্টত পশু সুরক্ষা আইন ২০১৯–এর ৭ ধারার লংঘন। সেখানে বলা আছে বেওয়ারিশ কুকুরসহ যেকোনো পশু হত্যা বা সরিয়ে দেওয়া নিষিদ্ধ।

কিন্তু সেখানে কী করা হচ্ছে ঢাকা উত্তর সিটি করপোরেশনও এই বেওয়ারিশ কুকুরের বিষয়য়টি সামললানো চেষ্টা করছে, কিন্তু এথিক্যাল ভাবে। তারা ভ্যাকসিন দেওয়া ও স্টেরিলাইজ করা কুকুর খুঁজে বের করছে, যাতে কুকুরের সংখ্যা সীমিত রাখা যায় এবং রোগ প্রতিরোধ করা যায়।

০২. আপনার নাম লিস্টে ওঠার জন্য অপশনটা অন করে রাখুন।

০৩. ঢাকার মেয়রদের কাছে পাঠানো যৌথ আবেদনপত্রে আপনার নাম ব্যবহার করা হবে।
