Marston's want to sell off The Claregate Pub, Wolverhampton for demolition and replace it with a care home development.

The building has been there since 1935 before the Claregate community was built. It has served and does serve so many generations of residents. It is also currently making a profit and is more valuable to the local community than a care home that could alternatively be built on the many derelict land sites around Wolverhampton. It would be a great loss.

Please sign this online petition if you are against the move and would like to see the Claregate Pub remain as a key community asset.

I think we have far too many care homes in the area already and too few pubs. The Claregate is an attractive building and a popular pub which should be refurbished and maintained for future generations to enjoy.

The Claregate is so important to the residents of the area that it should be preserved as a local amenity. The pub is a focal point for local activities and an accessible venue for local people celebrating occasions in their lives.

Marstons/Banks's maintaining their tradition of making a fast buck whilst destroying the fabric of public houses in the area. Remember the Wheel at Codsall, The Shoulder of Mutton Tettenhall The Oak on Blackhalve lane Wednesfield and others now sites of housing developments.

The Claregate is a lovely friendly and respectable pub. Marstons should be ashamed as it is, because they were supposed to use some of the cash from the new Tesco to give it a facelift and pocketed it instead. Now they want to tear it down? Ridiculous.

i grew up in the area, and have many fond memories of playing in the the beer garden. As an adult I have continued to visit, it's a great place, with a good atmosphere. It's a meeting place for many around the area and it is a shame that part of the community is threatened.

This pub has only just started to get consistent since I moved to Wolves. Great managers picking it up without any investment....as others have said....throw some money at it like the Oddfellows...not sell it off!
