The council finally reversed their decision and the Basin View Centre is going to stay open. My hands are shaking as I type this because it was a brutal stretch, but we actually pulled it off. Stay vigilant while we make sure they follow through on this promise.

The days are long and the lack of response from the county council is draining but I am still here reading every single one of your stories about what this place means to you. We are pushing forward because the Basin View Centre is not just a building to the people who need it most.

The town needs this building the store people have low incomes where are they gonna go shopping if they have no car ? Cornwallis would have nothing . There is nothing for kids in the area anymore either with the ymca gone this is just sad
This facility is so much more than a gym. Many programs are based here - for seniors, youth, newcomers, and everyone else in between! We have been fortunate to have the YMCA and the other businesses that lease the building. Losing it would be a disaster for our small community.
Been going here for years, you’d be putting several businesses out of business, and putting a lot of people out of work. This is the last thing this area needs during a pandemic AND housing crisis. Let’s just add a bunch of job losses to make it that much worse.
Basinview is the result of vision, years of fund raising by the community and collaboration on multiple levels of government. It is a travesty to shut it down completely, with no warning or consultation with the community it serves.
Our area has lost so much over the years, this complex is all that is left. It provides employment, recreation, social activities and much needed services to the resident of Cornwallis and surrounding communities and Counties. Please fight to save it!
The Y at Basinview was an incredible asset to our community, supporting seniors physical and mental health and keeping them put of doctors offices. Very very short sighted move on behalf of council. If the decision was based on finances alone then perhaps council should have prioritized it over some of the other financial fiascos they created. Please save this facility.

My son has used this in the past for tot swim with his early interventionist. It would be a sad thing to see gone!!! My boyfriend has also used it to help him with some physical exercise after having a car accident causing him to have a traumatic brain injury(tbi).
