Please sign this petition if you would like to preserve Oleta River State Park mountain bike trails as it stands and put a stop to the removal of roots in the trails. Eliminating roots causes possible damage to the trees and increases erosion. Part of the challenge of mountain biking is being able to ride through different terrain, roots and rocks make the trails technical and unique.
Cutting a tree root that is larger than 2 inches in diameter or cutting too close to the trunk interferes with the structure of the tree. Roots provide the support necessary to keep your tree standing, and without the support structure, your tree becomes unstable. This can lead to your tree falling over during high winds or rainstorms, causing potential injury.

I honestly cannot believe how fast this is growing because people actually care about the trails which is just so cool. It feels like the reality of trees falling over is finally clicking with everyone else too which is a massive relief.

Please stop the madness! If people don't like riding technical terrain they should choose another one of the five trail systems in South Florida that have less technical trails.... The roots are there for a reason, let them be!
I did all trails except Gilligans / Delirium yesterday and the destruction of roots was evident on almost every trail, I don't get it. This permanently alters so much of what makes Oleta technical / fun and is the park's signature! Sad
I enjoy the park for its technical aspects. Removing the roots makes the park featureless and also contributes greatly to erosion. It's a unique park in s. Fl and should stay that way.
Who thought it would be a good idea to cut a tree's roots? Please leave the roots intact. I'd hate to hear that a tree with cut roots fell onto a park user!
We're supposed to preserve nature not damage the system. These roots make Oleta the beautiful place that it is. Major liability issue too, if these trees die & fall on people. Please cease the removal of roots immediately. Thank you.
The damage is irreversible. This person should be charged with disorderly conduct, illegal modification of state property and the park should get a restrain order against that person. He should not be allowed to enter any florida state park for a long time, at least 10 years. He should be treated as a fellon, because he committed a crime. That's my opinion.
Please stop cutting all the roots it is ruining the trail system .

I ride trails to be a part of nature, and not to dominate nature. There is no need to alter the park for convenience...Please don't cut any more roots.
