CHANGES TO QUEENS PARK STADIUM:
THE COMMUNITY WILL PAY THE ULTIMATE PRICE
We, the undersigned, as residents and taxpayers of New Westminster, or as baseball players, coaches and advocates of community and youth sport, OPPOSE THE PROPOSITION BROUGHT FORTH BY THE VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC TO TURN QUEENS PARK STADIUM INTO A FACILITY DEDICATED TO SOCCER AND HOME PITCH TO A USL DIVISION 1 SOCCER TEAM.
Our opposition is rooted in financial, political and community concerns, as well as concern for the youth and young adults who play baseball in our city.
Who will pay for the changes to the Stadium?
How much will is cost to relocate teams that currently use the facility?
Why is a major change to the Queens Park Development Plan being rushed through with
minimal consultation?
How will the city deal with practical issues such as the lack of parking in Queens Park?
What will happen to community events that take place in the Stadium (eg: May Day and
movies in the Park)?
Have your say on the future of Queens Park. Add you name to this petition.

I was just looking at the count and we are almost at five hundred which is wild because honestly I still can't believe they think they can just take our stadium without a real fight. If you have been waiting for the right moment to bug your neighbors about this then today is finally the day because we need to hit that goal before the city officials even look at our file.

I honestly cannot believe how many people are flooding in here to keep our park from turning into a soccer pitch because seeing this momentum keeps me up at night in the best way possible. It was just an idea I had while sitting in the bleachers worrying about the future of our diamond but now it feels like a real fire has started and I am honestly just floored by all of you.

I just looked at the screen and saw we actually hit triple digits with this thing which honestly feels way bigger than I ever imagined it would. It is honestly bizarre to think that over a hundred people are just as annoyed about these stadium plans as I am (I mean really, where are all these soccer fans supposed to park anyway).

I have coached baseball for many years in the lower mainland, it is difficult to see a great baseball field being turned into a soccer field. There are many other soccer fields that could be used for this purpose. Lets save baseball in New West.
Not enough green space as it is in this community without giving a large chunk of it away to a for-profit endevour. We also do not need more traffic and parking problems clogging up the Queens Park area. 3500 people coming and going from this normally quiet area would be problematic..
As a parent of a New Westminster baseball player and a life long resident of New Westminster I vote to keep the stadium in Queens Park. It is part of the heritage of Queens Park and baseball for our children is more important than revenue off 14 games of soccer a year. Thank you.
There are not many baseball stadiums like this in B.C. It would be a shame on the city to let it go and displace so many young baseball players to other communities besides our own. The costs of the Whitecaps proposal will be felt by all tax payers.
My husband played in the Canadian Senior Men's championship at Queens Park. Our son plays baseball for New Westminster Little League, and we would like him to be able to continue into his teens. Please keep Queens Park a baseball field.
City Hall needs to maintain the valuable assets that the baseball Stadium represents and that Queen's Park represents as a natural landscape.
This effects the whole premiere ball league forcing a team out because now their field is gone .

Great memories watching our son play there. Great place for family, friends and Abbey the dog to come and watch. Fond memories of a Mother's Day double header. Lots of families supporting youth playing something other than XBOX. Play soccer somewhere else. Queens Park is for baseball.
