The City Council is very seriously considering a plan to take over 2 acres of land that were set aside for Luther Burbank Park in the Park Master Planning Process in 2006. The proposal is to regrade the hill next to the Community Center and put in 220+ parking spots to bring in traffic from our suburban neighbors. The argument is that this will eventually, one day, create more parking spots for Mercer Island residents. You can see the map from the Luther Burbank planning process in 2006 clearly includes this space as part of Luther Burbank Park. See here for that map: (http://www.lutherburbankpark.org/blog).

Please sign this petition and join concerned citizens of Mercer Island & Friends of Luther Burbank Park (http://www.lutherburbankpark.org) to urge the City Council to find alternative locations that do not take over park property right next to the Community Center. Save Luther Burbank Park and keep it a peaceful place to contemplate nature for generations to come. You do not need to log in to Facebook to sign this petition.
