Final supporters
York council are withdrawing lunch time meals in sheltered accommodation. Some of the residents in this type of accommodation are too frail, confused or physically unable to provide lunch for themselves. They enjoy the social side of sitting together to eat, chat and enjoy the time they spend together while eating their lunch, the alternative seems to be a microwaveable meal in their flat.

The council is keeping their doors shut for now. We are still pushing for a meeting to protect these meals.

My mum lives in one of these homes and she cant cook for herself anymore. This is just cruel to take away the only hot meal she gets all day.
TOTAL DISGRACE. These people paid their taxes all their lives and now the council wants to leave them alone with a microwave meal. Shame on you york council!!!!

The social aspect is just as important as the food. Isolation is already a huge problem for our elderly and this will just make it worse.
