The administration decided to keep the speech program exactly where it belongs. I am bone tired from this fight but the outcome makes it all worth it. Keep an eye on the schedule for next year just to be certain they actually follow through.

In Las Colinas, speech is much more than just an elective. We have become a family. This class has taught us how to speak in front of people, how to not be afraid to talk to other people, how to become a family, how to deal with other people, how to handle rejection, how it feels to win, how it feels to come out of your shell and how to be themselves and shine. It makes us feel apart of something. No one has hated our speech team, teaching us amazing life skills that we couldn't learn from anywhere else at our school. So please sign and keep this going on for the next years so they can have the amazing experiences that we had. Thank you. #savespeech

Updates

June 3, 2014

The emails I keep getting from former students about how this class changed them are the only reason I am still pushing forward despite the exhaustion. Behind the scenes we are trying to get a sit down with the administration to explain why this program cannot just be written off as an elective. It is getting harder to stay hopeful but we are not walking away from this fight.

The response to this campaign has been overwhelming and it shows just how much this team means to all of us. I am exhausted by the fight to keep our doors open but seeing this level of backing reminds me why we cannot quit now.

We've had such an amazing year this year, and im sure it will only get better for the speechies of the future. We owe it to them to keep speech a class.

Three of my children went through the Las Colinas Speech Program many years ago. One is the current President of the Camarillo PTA Council, one is in a management position for Amazon.com and one is an AWANA Commander and has served as President of several clubs. Being able to speak in front of other people is one of the hardest things to do, but advances careers, social relations and enhances lives. Please keep speech as an elective. The teachers who teach speech are dedicated, enthusiastic and caring. They give their time and their talent to encourage their students.

Please don't get rid of this program. My daughter has grown leaps and bounds in her confidence and ability to communicate through her involvement in speech this year. Future students need the same opportunities!

I have judged at most of the Speech tournaments the last two years. I watched the participants grow and mature. Speech is a great experience for these students, and needs to be a class, not a club.

why shut down something that keeps the youth in such a positive atmosphere instaed of somewhere they shouldn't be.

I hope this works out well, Bailey! I know how much you have enjoyed the program whilst at Middle school. All the best, Eliza

I'm just a cousin of the Garcia bunch from Ohio.... but as a veteran Forensic Team member in High School and all through University I encourage your community to fight as hard as you must to keep this team! In my over 8 years as a competitor I saw many peers build self confidence they would have never gained if it were not for participating on the team. So many of us were not quite cut out for sport fields where so many others gain the confidence they need to grow into strong adults. The practice rooms and the host schools for Tournaments... were my playing field! I hope your district will see if they reduce the team's resources they are taking away what would be equivalent to cutting your schools football field in half.... Allowing those players to run only 50 yards and expect them to win games on a 100 yard field on Friday nights. I hope you get the support you need!!
